Public Works
The Department of Public Works serves the community by maintaining and operating public facilities. The Department’s responsibilities range from streets and storm drains to watershed management and solid waste. Sidewalks, pavement, street trees, storm drains, bridges, public restrooms, public buildings and many other public facilities are all maintained and operated by the Department of Public Works.
In a given day, Public Works staff can be seen trimming trees, repairing sidewalks, and even assisting with City sponsored events such as the Avocado Festival. The Department of Public Works also reviews and approves portions of private development projects as well as manages all capital improvement projects such as the recently completed Eighth Street Bridge Project.
